Damian didn’t move from his spot when Colin shifted closer, but it did however make his heart rate pick up slightly, and only cause him to flush some more. His breathing shallow and quick. Why was this happening? Even with all his confusion, he didn’t want Colin to go away, but wanted him to come closer. He wanted to be next to him, to touch him. Damian swallowed sheepishly and nodded slowly. “Yeah. Why do you feel weird?” he asked, wondering if maybe he could get to the bottom of this. Maybe they both started feeling weird at the same time. Maybe it was those damned corn dogs they had?!
“I’m not sure,” he says quietly and nervously, pulling Rory up a little. With the teddybear’s head grazing his chin, he turns his gaze away from Damian to consider the question. Why is he feeling like this? When did it start? …He has no idea what the answer to that second question is, nor the answer to the first one either. At least not completely. But…what he does know…is that the fluttery, light feeling appears when he’s close to Damian. Making him only want to be closer to the other boy. Colin swallows, the realization just making the butterflies rise to his throat as well, and he glances back to Damian once more. “I just feel really weird when I…when I’m around you.”
Damian’s breathing hitched slightly in surprise at what Colin said. Around me? He’s not sure why it happened, but it did, and it made him happy to hear that. Not only because it’s the same with him, feeling this way around Colin, but because….it really did make him happy. Damian narrowed his eyes, trying to figure this all out and he pushed himself up a little further and scooted a little closer to Colin, leaving just a few inches of space between them. He wanted to say that he was feeling the same way, but couldn’t bring himself to do it. Sharing feeling so openly was something he was definitely not good at. Instead he just looked Colin in the eyes, searching for something, an answer, what he should do next.
When Damian doesn’t answer or say anything in response to what Colin just admitted, he feels his heart fall and a strange sadness welling up inside him. But then the other scoots closer and his eyes widen a little in surprise, the blush on his face returning and darkening. And there are the swarm of butterflies again. They’re fluttering everywhere now and Colin feels his heartbeat quicken as he realizes just how close Damian is. …But he wants to be even closer. Pushing himself up a little as well, he inches closer to the other boy, nervously closing the gap between them until they’re only a millimeter, a breath apart. He keeps his eyes locked with Damian’s, looking for any change in his expression. He doesn’t want him to feel uncomfortable, and if there’s any sign of him not liking how close they are, Colin is quickly ready to back off. Even though…he really doesn’t want to.
Damian’s eyes narrowed sharply when Colin had giggled and laughed, knowing exactly what it was about as well. It caused...
Oh. So Damian didn’t know either? For a moment, Colin’s not sure whether to feel disappointed or relieved -relieved that...
